Electric vs water-based underfloor heating with tiles
Electric underfloor heating mats or cables are generally thinner and simpler to retrofit under tiling in a single room (like a bathroom), while water-based (wet) systems, tied into the central heating, need a thicker floor build-up and are more commonly installed as part of a wider renovation or extension rather than retrofitted into a single existing room. Both work well with tile as a floor finish, but the practical installation implications — floor height build-up in particular — differ, which is worth discussing with your installer if floor level relative to adjoining rooms is a concern.
Running costs and efficiency
