Wardrobes designed around the room

A fitted wardrobe should look as though it has always been part of the room. Every wardrobe we design and install is planned around the space it lives in, whether that is the alcove beside a chimney breast, the slope of a loft ceiling or a full wall from floor to ceiling, and around the way you use it every day. The materials, finish, interior, hardware and lighting are chosen for your project rather than taken from a fixed range.

We design and install:

  • Hinged-door fitted wardrobes
  • Sliding-door wardrobes
  • Walk-in wardrobes and dressing rooms
  • Alcove and chimney-breast wardrobes
  • Under-eaves, loft and sloped-ceiling wardrobes
  • Wall-to-wall and floor-to-ceiling storage

Made for the project

There is no single right way to build a fitted wardrobe. Depending on the design, the specification and the budget, we either manufacture the furniture as a bespoke piece for your room, or work with manufacturers and suppliers and then install and tailor the furniture on site. We agree the approach with you once we understand what the room and the design need.

If you have already chosen a wardrobe system or furniture from another manufacturer or retailer, we can install it for you, adapt it to the room and make good around it where appropriate.

Materials and finishes

The specification is tailored to each project, never one standard board for every job. We commonly work with MDF, MFC and veneered boards, and painted finishes are available. Veneered and high-quality painted finishes are particularly suited to our more premium bespoke projects.

Door and front finishes follow the design rather than a short catalogue: painted and spray-finished doors, wood veneers, textured and woodgrain finishes, mirrored and glass fronts, and other finishes chosen to suit the room.

Door styles include:

  • Shaker and framed doors
  • Flat and slab doors
  • Handleless doors, with push-to-open or grip-profile systems
  • Glazed and framed-glass doors
  • Sliding-door systems
  • Panelled and traditional styles, where they suit the property

Interiors tailored to your storage

The inside of a wardrobe matters as much as the doors. Rather than a fixed configuration, each interior is planned around what you actually store, balancing hanging space, shelving, drawers and other storage in the proportions you need. We commonly use Egger decorative boards for interior cabinetry, for the breadth of colours and finishes they offer. More specialist accessories can be explored during the design.

Hardware and lighting

The parts you touch every day should feel as considered as the wardrobe looks. We commonly fit premium hardware from Blum, Hettich and Häfele, and soft-close is our normal specification for hinges, doors and drawers where appropriate.

Lighting can be designed in several ways: motion-sensor lighting, lighting that switches on automatically as a door opens, or manually switched lighting. Other electrical elements can be incorporated where the design calls for them, and where certification or specialist sign-off is required, it is arranged as required.

Removal and making good

We can remove existing wardrobes and furniture before the new installation begins. Removal and disposal are available at an additional cost where required.

The finishing work can be part of the same project, so the wardrobe sits cleanly in the room: plastering and wall repairs, skirting, coving, accurate scribing to walls and ceilings, and decorating where required.

How a project runs

  • An initial conversation, starting from photos of the space, approximate measurements and any images of the style you are drawn to
  • A free site survey to measure accurately, assess the space and talk through the design
  • Design, materials and finishes selected with you
  • A written quotation for the agreed scope and specification
  • Your approval and a deposit
  • Detailed design and 3D visualisation, where required
  • Manufacture or ordering
  • Removal of existing furniture, if included
  • Installation and accurate scribing
  • Lighting and electrical elements, if included
  • Making good and decorating, if included
  • A final inspection and handover

The quotation represents the agreed project. Changes or additions you ask for, or genuinely unforeseen work, can affect the final cost.

Seeing the design before it is made

Our 3D visualisation service allows you to review the proportions, layout and overall design before manufacture begins, so decisions about finishes, interiors and lighting can be made with the finished wardrobe in view.

When you go ahead with the wardrobe project and pay the project deposit, the visualisation can be developed as part of the project. It can also be commissioned independently as a standalone design service, with no obligation to use us for the installation. See our 3D design and visualisation service.

Timings

Manufacture or supply normally takes around two to three weeks after approval, depending on the design, the materials and the specification.

Installation time depends on the project, so we do not quote a fixed number of days. Some wardrobes are installed relatively quickly, while a larger or more complex bespoke installation can take around a week, sometimes longer. Walk-in wardrobes and dressing rooms are planned and quoted individually, because their size, the finishing work, the lighting and the amount of bespoke manufacture all shape the time on site.

For a general guide to what affects the cost and the planning, read our guide to built-in wardrobes.

On installation days

Our team protects floors and surrounding areas, keeps dust to a minimum as far as reasonably possible, keeps the working area organised and cleans up as the work progresses and at completion. It helps to clear personal belongings from the immediate work area beforehand, and you do not need to be at home for every fitting day, as long as access has been agreed.

Aftercare

Our installation work comes with a 1-year workmanship guarantee. If a door, drawer or fitted component needs adjusting after installation and it relates to our workmanship, we put it right as part of our aftercare. Hardware from manufacturers such as Blum, Hettich and Häfele is covered by the relevant manufacturer product warranty where one applies, under the terms set by that manufacturer.

Beyond the wardrobe

The same approach extends to the rest of the home: bedroom furniture including drawers, dressing tables and bedside units, home-office furniture, bookcases, alcove shelving, understairs storage, and other bespoke fitted furniture built to your requirements. We also design and install media walls and carry out complete kitchen renovations.

Where we work

Most of our work is around Leighton Buzzard, Milton Keynes and the wider Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire area, and we also work further along the M1 corridor towards north London. Our fitted wardrobe work includes a floor-to-ceiling bespoke wardrobe in London, using Egger panels, with tailored internal storage, premium soft-close drawers and hinges, and LED lighting that switches on automatically as the doors open. The experience behind Carvalho Renovations

Before Carvalho Renovations was founded, our founder worked professionally in Dubai, UAE, from 2016 to 2018, working with and fitting premium wardrobe, kitchen and furniture products from brands including Molteni&Co, Colombini, Armani/Dada and Dada.

Work from that period is shown separately from our own projects and is always labelled: Dubai, UAE: completed by our founder during their previous professional career, before Carvalho Renovations was founded. These are not Carvalho Renovations projects, and they do not imply any relationship with those brands.

Questions we are often asked

Is the site survey free?

Yes. The initial site visit to measure the space and discuss the design is free. We can also begin from photographs, measurements or a video before arranging it.

Can you install a wardrobe system I have already bought?

Yes. We install customer-supplied wardrobe systems and furniture from other manufacturers and retailers, adapt them to the room and make good around them where appropriate.

Do you make the wardrobes yourselves?

It depends on the project. We can manufacture bespoke furniture, or work with manufacturers and suppliers and then install and tailor it. The right approach depends on the design, the specification and the budget.

Is 3D design included?

3D visualisation is a dedicated design service, separate from the free initial survey. It can be developed as part of your project once you go ahead and pay the project deposit, or commissioned independently as a standalone design service, with no obligation to use us for the installation.

How long does a fitted wardrobe take?

Manufacture or supply normally takes around two to three weeks after approval. Installation depends on the design: some wardrobes are fitted relatively quickly, while larger bespoke installations can take around a week or longer. Every project is different, so this is an indication rather than a promise.

Can you add lighting inside the wardrobe?

Yes. Lighting can be motion-sensor, switched on automatically as a door opens, or manually switched. Where certification or specialist sign-off is required, it is arranged as required.

Do you remove the old wardrobes?

Yes. We can remove existing wardrobes and furniture, and removal and disposal are available at an additional cost where required.

Is there a guarantee?

Yes. Our installation work comes with a 1-year workmanship guarantee, and manufacturer hardware carries the relevant manufacturer product warranty where one applies.
