Para calcular cuántos azulejos necesita, divida el área total entre el área de un azulejo y añada después un margen de desperdicio para cortes, roturas y ajuste del patrón. Los suelos sencillos, colocados en cuadrícula, suelen necesitar un 5–10% extra; los diseños diagonales, en espiga, los mosaicos pequeños o las habitaciones con muchos rincones y cortes suelen necesitar un 10–15% o más. Redondee siempre a un azulejo entero (y una caja entera) — no se puede comprar parte de uno.
